Today is Poetry Friday. Students will be working with the last poem in their close reader, "Hard on the Gas." They are expected to complete annotations in their close readers as well as copy their favorite lines into their composition notebooks. REMINDER: assessment on poetry terms coming up. Students should have all terms identified except haiku and all of the poems we have worked with to date taped into chapter 5 of their notebooks. Students will be completing their 5th poetry response today as well. They may choose from a Written or a Visual Response, and both directions and the rubric are on the handout. Students are expected to choose one poem from our last four, complete their choice of response, use the rubric to self-assess, then staple the rubric to the response and turn it in to the box. NOTE TO PARENTS: today is the deadline for missing assignments for 3rd quarter. Students received progress reports yesterday with missing assignments highlighted, and directions for completing all assignments are posted in the classroom. Students should also ensure they have all notes on parts of speech and punctuation, as there is an assessment coming next week and they will be able to use their notebooks. Appropriate student responses will explain the meaning or impact of the precept. Today in class, we are working on test prep items. Students will read the stimulus and prompt, then use the provided rubric to score a check set of previously submitted items.
